Hubu Mountain is a must-visit attraction in Xuzhou.

There are many attractions on Hubu Mountain, such as Xima Terrace, Cui Tao's Former Residence, Yu Family Courtyard, Zhai Family Courtyard, Zheng Family Courtyard, and Li Family Courtyard. They are all national key cultural relics protection units and precious historical sites. I took the subway to Hubu Mountain on the morning of September 16, 2024. Hubu Mountain is well planned. There are ramps on one side and stairs on the other. Tourists can choose according to their needs. Several ancient sites are concentrated, which is convenient for visiting. There is also a snack street nearby, which is convenient for dining. Hubu Mountain, formerly known as Nanshan, is a small mountain 100 meters away from the south gate of the ancient city of Xuzhou, with an altitude of 70 meters. There are ancient sites such as Xiang Yu's Xima Terrace and Tai Tou Temple built by Emperor Wu of the Song Dynasty. In 1194 AD, the Yellow River flowed into the sea through Xuzhou. Due to the rising riverbed year by year, the Yellow River became a "suspended river" higher than the city wall of Xuzhou. In the fourth year of Tianqi of the Ming Dynasty (1624), the Yellow River rose again, and the Xuzhou Hubu Division moved the Yamen to Nanshan. After the flood receded, many people thought that Nanshan was a treasure land to avoid floods. They built a lot of buildings on the mountain. The Hubu Division did not move back to the city. This also drove the commercial development of Nanshan. Since then, Nanshan has been called Hubu Mountain. The Qing Dynasty was the golden age of Hubu Mountain. Deep houses and courtyards were built around the mountain, and workshops were everywhere, and shops were connected. It developed into the largest commercial distribution center in the border areas of Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, and Anhui. There are four gates at the four entrances to the mountain, and the big families on the mountain jointly send special personnel to guard and open and close regularly. The entire Hubu Mountain is like a small city. Xuzhou folk song says: "Poor Beiguan, rich Nanguan, rich people live in Hubu Mountain".
