Yumbu Lhakhang, the first palace in Tibet

"Yumbu" means doe in Tibetan, named after the mountain Tashi Tsering which resembles a doe. Yumbu Lhakhang is the first palace built by the first Tibetan king, Nyatri Tsenpo. Since then, successive Tibetan kings used it as their palace until Songtsen Gampo unified Tibet and moved to Lhasa, making it the summer palace of Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng. The sacred white walls, the precious and mysterious murals, the imposing architecture... Yumbu Lhakhang has witnessed the love and commitment between Princess Wencheng and Songtsen Gampo.
