On The Hill Coffee Bar has several branches in Hong Kong, with the Tai Kwun location standing out for its distinctive features. Unique Environment The Tai Kwun branch is situated in Central's Tai Kwun E Hall, which was formerly a prison. Upon entering, the original prison layout has been preserved, featuring white-themed decor paired with black iron gates, creating a stark and cold ambiance. Corners are adorned with iron stools surrounded by greenery, and large ceiling fans hang overhead, adding to the unique atmosphere. Here, you can enjoy coffee while sitting in a cell-like setting or at a stainless steel long table under the stairs. However, only the first floor is currently open, with the second floor sealed off by wire mesh. Coffee and Food The coffee menu includes specialties like Dirty and Thai Dirty. Thai Dirty incorporates condensed milk, offering a different texture compared to regular Dirty coffee. Deluxe Dirty uses milk-water separation technology, resulting in a denser texture with concentrated sweetness. The shop also serves chocolate coffee with beautiful latte art, boasting a rich and aromatic flavor. For desserts, the Tiramisu is a must-try, made with premium Miyazaki barley shochu from a 130-year-old establishment instead of traditional coffee liqueur. The top layer is decorated with chocolate shavings and rose petals, while the ladyfingers are soft and infused with a strong chocolate flavor. Operating Hours and Payment Methods The Tai Kwun branch operates from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM on Mondays to Wednesdays and Sundays, and from 9:30 AM to midnight on Thursdays to Saturdays. Note that WeChat Pay and Alipay are not accepted; only Octopus cards or credit cards are supported for payment.
