Hong Kong Museum of Art holds first major exhibition on Titian and the Venetian Renaissance

The Hong Kong Museum of Art will launch the "Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Titian and the Venetian Renaissance - Treasures from the Uffizi Gallery" from November 3, exhibiting collections from the world-renowned Italian Uffizi Gallery, leading the audience to get to know Titian, one of the most important artists in the history of Western art, and many of his contemporaries as masters of the Venetian School. This is the first large-scale exhibition of Titian and Venetian paintings in Hong Kong. The fifty masterpieces on display are colorful and profound in emotion. All of them are being exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time, and most of them are being shown in Asia for the first time. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held on November 2. In his speech, Acting Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Liu Zhen, said that the Hong Kong SAR Government is committed to consolidating Hong Kong's position as an international art and cultural exchange center. Over the years, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has collaborated with renowned museums around the world to bring world-class exhibitions to Hong Kong. This exhibition is the second collaboration between the LCSD and the Uffizi Gallery in Italy since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in 2019, bringing magnificent Italian art to Hong Kong. Other officiating guests included Italian Ambassador to China Ambrosio, Professor Erik Schaeffer, Chief Curator of the Uffizi Gallery in Italy, Ip Man-yee, General Manager of Charities (Sports, Culture and Community Engagement) of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Cheng Wing-shun, Chairman of the Legislative Council Panel on Home Affairs, Culture and Sports, Liu Ming-kwong, Director of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and Dr. Mok Ka-wing, Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Venice during the Renaissance was an important trade center and cultural exchange hub at that time. The wealthy environment and unique cultural atmosphere of this water city gave birth to the Venetian School of Painting, which is known for its diverse colors and rich emotions. Titian was one of the most respected artists of his time, and was highly sought after in Venice and throughout Europe. Titian's ability to depict powerful human emotions such as love, desire, power and spirituality not only made him a role model for his contemporaries, but also had a profound and lasting influence on European art for hundreds of years to come. This exhibition selects fifty paintings by Titian and contemporary Venetian art masters such as Giorgione, Tintoretto, and Paolo. Precious paintings by Veronese and others, including portraits, biblical and mythological stories, lead the audience into the artistic world of the Venetian School. Featured exhibits include Titian's "Flora", "Venus, Cupid, Dog and Partridge", "Tommaso. Mosti and Madonna of Misery; as well as Giorgione's The Trial of Moses, Tintoretto's Venus, Cupid and Vulcan and Veronese's The Baptism of Christ. The Hong Kong Museum of Art also invited local artists Leung Chi-wo and Chan Kwan-lok to draw inspiration from the works of the Venetian School to create their own art. From the unique perspective of 21st century Hong Kong artists, they embarked on an artistic dialogue across time and space with the masters of the 16th century Italian Renaissance. The site-specific installation work "Tears of Time" created by visual artist Liang Zhihe leads the audience to explore the traces of the passage of time. He collected old Venetian glass lamps that were used in various homes and places in Italy from the 19th to the 20th century, and used the light transmitted by them, combined with sound effects recorded from the sounds he collected in Venice in September this year, to create an effect in which the lights seem to move with the sound of waves hitting the Murano pier, forming an experience of the intersection of time and space. Artist Chen Junle was inspired by the unique style of the Venetian School of Painting that blends religion and secularism. He used traditional brush and ink to give characters and life to natural landscapes such as the sun, moon, stars, mountains, rivers, trees and rocks. By depicting the emotions and experiences in them, he connected with nature and narrowed the distance between nature and humans. His ink installation work "Nature Worship" uses thirteen groups of meticulous paintings to immerse the audience in the artistic emotions of ancient and modern times, both at home and abroad, and discover the profound meaning contained therein. The exhibition will be held from November 3 to February 28 next year in the special gallery on the second floor of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. The exhibition is exclusively sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, co-organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism, jointly planned by the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Uffizi Gallery in Italy, co-organised by the Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong and supported by the Cultural Affairs Office of the Consulate General of Italy. It is one of the programmes of the Autumn "Italy" stage. #Uffizi Gallery Collection Exhibition #Hong Kong Museum of Art #Great Places to Discharge #Discharge #Great Places for Families #Holiday Family Tour #Local Tour #Great Places in Hong Kong #Great Places for Weekdays #Great Places for Weekends #Great Places #Local Family Tour #Parent-Child Tour #Parent-Child #Parent-Child Activities #Check-in Attractions #Check-in #hklifestyle #hkdaily #hkiger #hkig #hongkong #hk #instadaily #travelhk #discoverhk #explorehongkong #exploringhongkong #discoverhongkong #awesomehongkong
