The Hong Kong Museum of Art launches the "Dreams Come True" exhibition to tell the stories of Hong Kong artists pursuing their dreams

The Hong Kong Museum of Art will launch a new exhibition "Dreaming of the Future: A Few Things About Hong Kong Art" from March 21st, which focuses on the history of Hong Kong art over the past six decades and takes the audience through the dream-chasing journey of many Hong Kong artists. The exhibition is set in a unique space designed by local architectural design team Siu Kin Wai and Chan Shu Yan, in collaboration with graphic designer Tong Cheng Gang. It showcases works from the collections of Hong Kong's senior artists Chan Yu Sang, Ha Bik Chuen, Tong King Sam and contemporary artist Lee Wai Han, allowing the audience to discover classic moments from the past and artists' anecdotes through projection and interactive methods, and understand the development and evolution of the Hong Kong art scene. The exhibition also shows how four Hong Kong artists persevere in their dreams and express their insights into art and life through their creations. Their respective achievements in media such as sculpture, painting and ceramics reflect the diversity of Hong Kong art. Chen Yusheng (1925-2020) started painting at the age of 42. In his early years, he mostly used plastic paint to create works, and quickly established a distinctive and unique personal style. In 2001, he developed a health condition that prevented him from standing for long periods of time. However, he did not give up and instead turned to using Microsoft Painter to create his works. Chen's digital artwork "Colorful Dragon" is one of his representative works after the millennium, showing his infinite creativity in the field of digital art. Xia Biquan (1925-2009) taught himself with his tireless spirit and gradually entered the art world. His works are not only full of life and humorous, but also show his deep feelings for the community and nature. He never gave up his dream because of the difficulties in life. Instead, he turned every little thing in life into creative inspiration and achieved extraordinary success. Xia reassembled bamboo, discarded ironware, old tools, etc. into the sculpture "Commander Without Soldiers", demonstrating the artistic practice of turning decay into magic. Tong King-sum (1940-2008) was frail and sickly since childhood and had difficulty walking, but he used art to transcend physical limitations, demonstrated an indomitable spirit in pursuing his dreams, and became one of the pioneers of Hong Kong sculpture art. He makes good use of polishing techniques to give his works rich texture and moving lines, making each sculpture a tribute to nature and life. The exhibition displays his first wood carving work, "Ball", which started his journey of carving his dreams with his own hands using only a carving knife and a small piece of wood. Contemporary artist Li Huixian's ceramic works are known for their simple charm and sense of life, fully demonstrating her keen observation of society. She often uses humor to satirize the anomalies in life, allowing the audience to reflect on people and things in daily life while appreciating her works, and is deeply loved by the audience. The work "Ritual" exhibited this time cleverly combines the ritual of worshipping heaven with pottery to create a group of simple and vivid pottery dolls. The exhibition "Fulfilling Dreams: A Few Things About Hong Kong Art" will be on display from March 21 at the New Vision Pavilion on the 5th floor of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.
