A Temple Ripe Like Chestnuts: Magoksa Temple in Gongju

When you visit Magoksa Temple, you cross a bridge over a wide stream to enter the temple grounds. On rainy days, the sound of water cascading like a waterfall refreshes your ears. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018, this temple is home to the National Treasure, the Five-story Stone Pagoda of Magoksa, and the Treasure, the Four Heavenly Kings of Magoksa. Magoksa Temple is also known for its connection to independence activist Baekbeom Kim Gu, who briefly lived here as a monk. Follow his footsteps and take a walk along the forest trail. 🌳 Address : 966 Magoksa-ro, Sagok-myeon, Gongju-si, Chungcheongnam-do 🌻 Admission Fee : Free ⚘ Tip : Parking at the lot in front of Magoksa Temple costs 4,000 KRW. While the free parking lot below offers scenic views, it is quite far. If you plan to visit Baengnyeonam Hermitage as well, it’s better to park closer to Magoksa Temple.
