Houwu Village Travel Guide

Houwu Village in Yongkang is a national traditional village. Its ancient buildings are one of the two national protected sites in Yongkang. Houwu Village Ancient Buildings are located in Houwu Village, Qiancang Town, Yongkang City, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, and were built during the Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China. Houwu Village has a long history. It was established in the 10th year of Jiading in the Song Dynasty (1217) and has a history of nearly 800 years. The ancestor of Houwu Village was named Wu Zhaoqing. He was originally the tenth generation grandson of Quan Zhi, a Guanglu doctor in Xianju, and later moved to Yongkang. Houwu Village is culturally prosperous and has a rich cultural heritage. It is one of the famous villages in Yongkang. In 2007, Houwu Village was selected as the third batch of Chinese historical and cultural villages. The village retains the largest and most complete ancient buildings in Yongkang. There are five well-preserved ancestral halls and more than 1,000 old houses and halls, most of which are ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China. The longest history is more than 460 years. Famous ancestral halls include Wu's Ancestral Hall, Chengyi Ancestral Hall, Lishan Ancestral Hall, Yiting Ancestral Hall, and Xiangyang Ancestral Hall. The old houses include Sima's House, Yanqing Hall, Cuncheng Hall, and Shuyu Hall. The ancient buildings of Houwu Village are well preserved and have local characteristics. They are important materials for studying local architectural art, carving art, and painting art from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the Republic of China. On October 7, 2019, the ancient buildings of Houwu Village were announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
