Experience the mysterious Western-style architecture under the stained glass windows

Spanish Pyrenees Excursion ~ Lleida (Region) The monastery belongs to the Cistercian Order. Founded around 1173 by Ramón Berenguer IV, it features a Latin cross plan with a single nave and pointed arches. Above the transepts are 13th-century dome bases. The sanctuary has three rectangular chapels. Its Romanesque facade is striking. The chapel is decorated with arches, and the tympanum features a relief of the Virgin Mary flanked by two angels. Inside, the chapel houses the sarcophagi of Doña Violante, wife of King James I, and Doña Sancha, daughter of King James II. To the south of the chapel lies the cloister and its chambers.
