The Great Buddha of Shurakuen in Tokai City, Aichi Prefecture

The Great Buddha of Shurakuen is the first reinforced concrete Buddha in Japan, which was consecrated on May 21, 1927, to commemorate the marriage of Emperor Showa. The Great Buddha is 18.79m tall and was the largest in Japan when it was first completed. Even now, it is larger than the Great Buddha of Kamakura and was built by Nagoya businessman Yamada Saikichi.
