Zongshenggong Ancestral Hall, Zhenzai Village, Quannan County, Jiangxi Province.

Zongshenggong Ancestral Hall is the oldest, largest, best-preserved, and most culturally rich ancestral hall in Quannan County. It was built by the first ancestor of the Zeng family in Zhenzai Village, Rongqian Jiulang, to worship the ancestor Nanzi (Zeng Shen, the orthodox successor of Confucius' thought, known as "Zongsheng" and one of the "Four Sages" in Chinese history along with Confucius, Mencius, and Yanzi). The ancestral hall was built in the second year of the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty (1404 AD) and completed in the seventh year of the Yongle period, with a history of over 600 years. The ancient ancestral hall is 52.8 meters long, 18.5 meters wide, and 9.7 meters high, with a construction area of 976.8 square meters. It is magnificent and elegant. Amazingly, the entire ancestral hall, whether in overall consideration or detailed design, conforms to the principles of mechanics, which makes the ancient ancestral hall still stand tall after more than 600 years of vicissitudes. In the middle hall of the ancient ancestral hall, there is a plaque inscribed with "Chongxiao An" by Zeng Ruzhao, a Jinshi in the 29th year of the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty and a Shaoqing of the Taichang Temple (Zhengsipin), which is an important historical witness to the inheritance of Zengzi's filial piety thought. Every year on the 13th day of the third lunar month, the Zeng clan holds a "Taigonghui" ancestor worship ceremony. This custom has been passed down for over 400 years, embodying the behavioral concepts of respecting filial piety, keeping faith, doing good, and harmony, with the legacy of Zengzi. In the center of the courtyard, there is an ancient well, which still has clear water and a smooth spring. This form of having a courtyard above and a well below is extremely rare in Hakka ancestral halls in southern Jiangxi. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Ganzhou City.
