I went to a ramen shop called "Menya Shinmei" in Hangetsu-cho, Obu City. "Menya Shinmei" is located along the main street, and a large sign is the landmark. There are counter seats and table seats inside the shop. You order by scanning a QR code with your smartphone. The most popular dish is apparently the "Creamy Tonkotsu Shinmei Special," but I ordered the second most popular, the "Creamy Tantan Noodles." The noodles were chewy and medium-thick, and the creamy soup was the best. It was very well-balanced and delicious. The "Creamy Tonkotsu Shinmei Special" is special because it contains soft-boiled eggs, quail eggs, roasted pork, large seaweed, spinach, and white onions. It was really delicious. The lotus flowers are most beautiful in the morning, so we arrived there around 9am. There were already other visitors there, taking photos of the lotus flowers. Families also visit, and it seems to be a place of relaxation. There is a bridge that allows you to go around the pond. You can see the lotus flowers very close up, so it's easy to take photos. It's definitely worth a visit.

I visited Hachiman Tensui-gu Shrine in Obu City, Aichi Prefecture. Hachiman Tensui-gu Shrine is a relatively new shrine that enshrines many major and slightly more unusual gods, including the Tenno Okami, the first Ame-no-Minakanushi in the Kojiki, Hakuryu Benten and Midoryu, Daikokuten, the Seven Lucky Gods, Kunitokotachi-no-Okami, and Amaterasu-Omikami. Everyone at the shrine was very nice, and told me the story of Hachiman Tensui-gu Shrine, and even gave me sweets, tea, and rice cakes. I visited Yatsuya Shinmeisha Shrine, located in Kyowa-cho, Obu City. Yatsuya Shinmeisha Shrine was established in 1664 (Kanbun 4) as the guardian deity of the village of Yatsuya (now Kyowa-cho), became a village shrine in 1872 (Meiji 5), and was renamed Shinmeisha in 1878 (Meiji 11). It is a shrine that has been protected as the guardian deity of Kyowa to this day. Recently, a new shrine building was rebuilt. Yatsuya Shinmeisha Shrine is famous for being the shrine where the god of victory resides. I saw lotus flowers at Hoshinaike Pond, a famous lotus spot. In July, Hoshinaike Pond is full of blooming lotus flowers, which is spectacular. The water droplets sparkle beautifully on the large leaves, which is wonderful. The toilets have been newly built, and the bridge is now passable. The pond is not that big, but you can look down from above and in the center of the bridge, people with impressive cameras were taking pictures. There seems to be a large frog in the pond, and its croaking echoes throughout the pond. I enjoyed Obu Midori Park in Obu City, Aichi Prefecture. Obu Midori Park is a very large and beautiful park. There is a splash pool in the central square, and a fountain that shoots water up to a height of 5 meters. It was a summer day, so the children were having fun playing there. The adventure playground has two large playground equipment for children with a dragon motif. It is very impressive. Port Phillip Garden has silver wattle (mimosa) trees, which were donated by Port Phillip, Australia, Obu's sister city, and they are said to be in full bloom from March to April. I visited Kozenji Temple on my trip to visit the Obu Seven Lucky Gods. Kozenji Temple is a Soto Zen temple founded in 1558. One of the Obu Seven Lucky Gods, Benzaisonten is the only goddess among the Seven Lucky Gods, and is said to be a god who prays for good fortune for women. The surrounding area is a quiet residential area with a calm atmosphere. There is a parking lot, so you can go by car, but be careful as the surrounding roads are somewhat narrow. There are many temples in Obu city, and the distances between the temples are short, so you can make a pilgrimage to the Obu Seven Lucky Gods in one day. I visited Hachiman Tensui-gu Shrine, located in Meisei-cho 1-chome, Obu City, Aichi Prefecture. There are stairs in front of the main hall of Hachiman Tensui-gu Shrine. Hachiman Tensui-gu Shrine has a new torii gate, and it enshrines Hakuryu Benten, Ryokuryu, Daikokuten, the Seven Lucky Gods, Kunitokotachi-no-Okami, Amaterasu-Omikami, and other gods. Hirin Hakuryu Benten Shrine is enshrined to the right of the main hall, Kunitokotachi Shrine is enshrined to the left, and at the back of the slope are two Inari-no-Okami, as well as Yamato Heiwa Inari Shrine, which enshrines Abe no Seimei. I visited Nagakusa Hachimansha Shrine in Obu City. Nagakusa Hachimansha Shrine is a branch shrine of Nagakusa Tenjin Shrine and is located at 1-20 Meisei-cho, Obu City. The date of its founding is unknown, but there are records that the shrine was renovated during the Keio era (1865-1868) as one of the five shrines of the village of Nagakusa. In 1874, a land consolidation decree was issued and six shrines were enshrined under Hachimansha Shrine: Shinmeisha Shrine in Aihara, Tanojin Shrine in Tanokami, Yamanojin Shrine in Higashiyorai, Fujiijin Shrine and Arajin Shrine in Hongo, and Gotsuya Shinmeisha Shrine in Gotsuya. In 1972, a new shrine building was built, a notice was filed with the Shinto Shrine Agency, and the shrine was officially moved to its current location. Every year at this time, I went to the Azalea Festival, which is held at Okura Park in Obu City, Aichi Prefecture! Okura Park was built in the early Taisho period as a villa for Kazuchika Okura, and there are an astounding 2,800 azaleas planted in the park! To get to the venue, you first walk up the hill from the event space while admiring the azaleas. Then you come to the entrance to a magnificent park with a thatched roof. There is an azalea corridor in the park, and as you walk around the park admiring the azaleas, you will come across a gazebo that gives a sense of its past as a villa, a bamboo forest called the Okura Bamboo Forest Path, and a look inside the bomb shelter that Okura Kazuchika likely used. During the Azalea Festival, there are a lot of stalls and food trucks, and singing and dancing events are held on the stage, so many people come to enjoy the events and the beautifully blooming azaleas. #Sakura2024 Futatsuike Park is a park with a row of Kawazu cherry trees. The rows of Kawazu cherry trees are very beautiful from late February to April. Unlike Somei-Yoshino, they have deep pink petals and are resistant to strong winds, so you can enjoy cherry blossom viewing for a relatively long period of time. The promenade around the pond is well maintained and has excellent cushioning, making it gentle on your feet, so you can take a leisurely stroll. Futatsuike Park is full of bird and other objects, all of which are cute! Just looking at them is fun. The glass-walled Seretona Garden also has a deck, so you can enjoy the view from just above the surface of the pond, which is very interesting. It's worth a visit!

#Sakura2024 I went to Momoyama Park to see the cherry blossoms. Momoyama Park is famous for its beautiful cherry blossoms. The park is beautiful with many cherry blossoms, but other than the cherry blossoms, the symbol of the park is the windmill monument. The silver-shining windmill, installed at a height where you have to look up, indicates the wind direction, and I was a little mesmerized by its imposing appearance. You can get a panoramic view of Obu city! There are also irises and wisteria trellises, which can be enjoyed depending on the season. Sakurazaka, the slope leading to Momoyama Park, was very beautiful with cherry blossoms that were 80% in bloom. Looking up at the row of cherry trees from below is a highly recommended angle. #Sakura2024 I went to see the cherry blossoms at Okura Park. We toured Okura Park together to enjoy the cherry blossoms. Okura Park was developed as a park on the site of the villa of the founder of Noritake Company. There are many parks in Tokyo that have been developed as feudal gardens from the Edo period, but villas from the Taisho period may be rare. Okura Park has two nationally registered tangible cultural properties: the thatched gate (the front gate of the former Okura Kazuchika villa) and the rest building (the annex of the former Okura Kazuchika villa). The thatched gate was re-thatched when it was relocated. There was a plum tree in the garden as well as bonsai inside the rest building. The park is about a 10-minute walk from JR Obu Station.

I went to the Obu City History and Folklore Museum. Admission is free. The streetscape of the Showa era was recreated, with bicycle shops, electronics stores, toy stores, candy stores, and camera stores lined up. There were many nostalgic daily necessities, so it was well worth a visit. There was an exhibition corner that restored part of a rice-shaped farmhouse (farmhouse) in the Obu area that remained from the early Meiji period to the 1950s, and the rice-shaped farmhouse was a typical layout of a four-room farmhouse at that time. Inside the room, you could feel the life of a farmhouse, with a low table and tea chest in the living room, a dressing table in the back room, a treadle sewing machine, and other daily necessities. At the paper art exhibition, many cars from the Showa era were on display, and there was also a model that recreated the cityscape of the Showa era. I was able to learn about the history of Obu City. About 500m east of Obu Station on the Taketoyo Line, you will find Enmei-ji Temple with its imposing mountain gate. This temple was founded in the Kamakura period and was once a large temple complex with seven halls. It was burned down during the Onin War, but has remained to this day under the protection of the lord of Ogawa Castle and the Owari Domain. The mountain gate is a three-bay, one-door, gabled-roof tower gate, and is called Monju Tower Gate because a statue of Manjusri is enshrined on the upper floor. Construction began in 1836 (Tenpo 7) at the end of the Edo period and was completed in the 11th year of the same year. It was dismantled and repaired on a large scale in 1986 (Showa 61), about 150 years later. There is a Karato (opening door) in the center, and Nio statues are enshrined on both ends. The brackets on the pillars (toko = box and brackets) are also magnificent, and there are carvings of peonies, Chinese lions, elephants, and more. Usually, there is a threshold under the door, but this gate is flat and can even be driven through by car. There is a large water jar between the gate and the main hall, and the tower gate is a cultural asset designated by Aichi Prefecture and Obu City. Enmei-ji Temple on Mount Horyuu, which has a history of over 1000 years, is the fourth place of worship in Chita Shikoku. Jizo-ji Temple is said to have started in 1573 (Tensho 1), when the local lord Ichimura Denshiro built a Jizo hall. In Tensho 3, the temple was founded by inviting the priest Kyoiwa from Chogen-ji Temple (Yokosuka, Tokai City). The adjacent Nagakusa Tenjin Shrine was located on the same premises until the end of the Edo period, but the premises were separated due to the Shinbutsu Bunri Rei (law to separate Shinto and Buddhism). The principal image is the Enmei Jizo Bodhisattva, said to have been made by Prince Shotoku. In the temple grounds, a huge 3.5m-tall "Shugyo Daishi Statue" stands on a pedestal made of Shikoku's unique turtle stone. This gigantic statue was erected in 1939 (Showa 14) to commemorate the 2,600th anniversary of the founding of the Japanese Empire. I visited Nagakusa Tenjin Shrine in Obu City, Aichi Prefecture. Nagakusa Tenjin Shrine is said to have started when the local lord welcomed Sugawara no Michizane as his guardian deity during the Muromachi period. The shrine is famous for its Doburoku Festival and the god of learning. The Doburoku Festival has a history of over 500 years, and on the day of the festival, you can drink alcohol for free, making it a great festival for alcohol lovers. The Doburoku Festival at Nagakusa Tenjin Shrine is a tangible folk cultural property designated by Obu City. At Nagakusa Tenjin Shrine, stone statues of cows are enshrined on both sides of the stone steps leading to the main shrine, welcoming you. I visited Entsuji, a temple of the Soto sect of Buddhism, which is the 88th temple of the Chita Shikoku Pilgrimage. According to temple legend, it was founded by Gyoki and its founder Muso Soseki, and is an ancient temple with a history of over 1,200 years. The temple grounds contain many temple treasures, including a standing statue of Bishamonten, and you can view them by making a reservation. The Bato Kannon Bodhisattva and Juntei Kannon Bodhisattva, which are said to have been enshrined by Gyoki, are designated cultural properties of Obu City.
