A fortress of private property not open to the public

Spain Westward Journey ~ Cáceres (Region) The fortress of the Grand Commandery of the Order of Alcántara, commonly known as the "Palace", is a huge building that was built in the 13th century and was expanded and renovated until the mid-19th century. Its outer walls were built in the late 16th century (fully Renaissance) and the fortress was built in the 17th century, added during successive wars with Portugal. Today the castle palace is private property and cannot be accessed, it is used exclusively for housing and agricultural work and has nothing to do with its historical function. #2024TravelReview #SpainTravel #Extremadura
