The square shape of the altar symbolizes the ancient Chinese belief of a "round sky and square earth." Its surface is paved with yellow glazed tiles, representing the earth, creating a solemn and respectful atmosphere. 2️⃣ Imperial Ancestral Hall: Located north of the Fangze Altar, this hall houses the spirit tablets of the earth deities worshipped by the emperors. The solemn furnishings inside showcase the rituals and etiquette of imperial sacrifices. 3️⃣ Divine Repository and Divine Kitchen: Situated west of the Fangze Altar, these buildings were used to store sacrificial items and prepare offerings. Today, they often host exhibitions related to the history and culture of the Temple of Earth. 4️⃣ Slaughtering Pavilion: Located east of the Fangze Altar, this pavilion was where animals were slaughtered before sacrifices. Inside, stone tables and benches illustrate the ancient sacrificial procedures. 5️⃣ Abstinence Palace: Situated in the southwest corner of the Temple of Earth park, this palace was where the emperor purified himself before earth worship ceremonies. The palace's exquisite architecture and tranquil surroundings offer insights into ancient imperial life. 6️⃣ The "Sea" of the Temple of Earth: The Temple of Earth doesn't have a real sea. This refers to a famous scenic path in the southeastern part of the park, where ancient trees and gray walls create a captivating depth, resembling a body of water, hence the name.
