Imperial Beijing in Transit: From the Forbidden City to the Temple of Heaven and Yuanmingyuan

My day began at the Forbidden City, where I walked through grand courtyards and intricately decorated halls once home to emperors. Climbing to Jingshan Park, I admired a breathtaking panoramic view of the sprawling palace complex, its golden rooftops shining under the morning sun. Next, I made my way to the Temple of Heaven, where emperors once prayed for good harvests. Standing before the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, with its deep blue-tiled roof and symmetrical elegance, I felt the spiritual and architectural grandeur of ancient China. Finally, I explored the ruins of Yuanmingyuan (Old Summer Palace), once an opulent imperial retreat. Though largely destroyed, the remaining stone structures and peaceful lakes hinted at its former glory. Strolling along the tranquil pathways, I reflected on the rich history embedded in every corner of the city. From the Forbidden City’s royal halls to the Temple of Heaven’s sacred grounds and Yuanmingyuan’s lost splendor, this transit was a time-traveling glimpse into Beijing’s imperial legacy.
