Paint Pouring Workshop - Swipe Technique (Advanced Level) | 3 Centrepark Dr
Jul 24, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Ottawa
Paint pouring, or fluid art, has unlimited techniques and variations to create unique abstract art. The swipe technique has infinite possibilities in itself - it can result in large blocks of colour, or wispy lines with lots of cells. In this advanced techniques workshop you will learn the swipe technique and create your own unique work of art.
Previous paint pouring experience is not mandatory to attend this workshop. But if you have never done any paint pouring before you might want to attend our Introductory workshop first.
All supplies will be provided. You will have opportunity to hone your skills on a practice canvas first and then paint your own swipe masterpiece! You can take both pieces home with you. Please note that it takes approximately 72 hours for the paint to fully cure. You will need to transport your painting carefully. A "pizza box" will be provided to help you bring your masterpiece home with ease. Paint pouring can get messy so dress appropriately. An apron or an old shirt is a good idea!
Please note: This workshop will be held in my home studio which is in my basement. Unfortunately it is not handicapped accessible.

Native Plant Garden Tour at the South Nepean Muslim Centre | 3020 Woodroffe Ave
Jul 26, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Ottawa
At the SNMC, members have converted grassy parts of a grassy/weedy landscape into pollinator-friendly garden spaces, using both Ontario native and non-invasive exotic plants to support pollinators and other wildlife. This is an attempt to support ecological biodiversity.
In September 2021, community volunteers created the first garden in a 180-foot bed along the main entrance off Woodroffe Ave. In summer 2022, they planted flowers in a waste space at the back of the property. The most recent project, in fall 2023, was the conversion of a large parking lot median into a thriving garden of perennials and grasses.
These gardens survive on rainfall and are hardly ever hand-watered. At the tour, Najeeb Siddiqui will tell us about their experience, challenges, and lessons learned so far.
Bee researcher Lydia Wong will also be on hand to identify pollinators and explain their habits and needs.

Naghmeh and Uñas Escondidas | Art House
Jul 26, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Ottawa
Doors at 8, Show at 9
Show Description
Naghmeh & Uñas Escondidas are hitting the road! Two female fronted indie folk acts with powerful voices are ready to share their original music with you in two multilingual performances.
Bios
Naghmeh is an Iranian-Canadian singer-songwriter based in Montreal. Singing in English, French, and Farsi, Naghmeh bridges language barriers and weaves cultural connections with diverse audiences through the magic of folk music. Her single ‘Burn’ was featured on CBC Radio and Global Montreal, and her composition in farsi was awarded a residency at Barnhouse Recording Studio. A child of war and revolution, Naghmeh uses her musical platform to elevate the voice of the voiceless, and to raise awareness about global issues and social causes. If the Talking Heads and Patti Smith had a love child, and that kid grew up listening to Metallica in Iran, it would probably sound like Naghmeh ----- Uñas Escondidas is an emerging indie folk duet, based in Montréal, fronted by Honduran singer-songwriter Daniela Rivera-Servellón, accompanied by bassist and producer Eeva Chevalier. The band plays an energetic banjo driven sound, willingly dancy, sparkled with dreamy and cinematic incursions. With rhythms inspired in traditional Latin-American music and 2000’s emo, Uñas Escondidas offers a folk character endowed with a modern intensity. Their music was recently featured on a short movie titled ‘Walk Me Home’, directed by Kaye Adelaide. Their debut self- titled album was released in September 2022, followed by a live album released in 2024. Their next E.P. “Venues Escorpión” is currently cooking up.
