An Art House series highlighting any and all varieties of jazz. Nu, afro, blues, funk, latin, hip hop, old timey… from here there and everywhere, get curious and climb aboard.
Featured Artist
Featured artist for this variation is the Wayne Eagles Trio, who perform original and reimagined jazz fusion material with a focus on interaction and interplay.
Wayne Eagles is dedicated improviser, embracing a wide vista of jazz, funk, rock, and fusion guitar styles.
He has been Guitar Performance Instructor at Carleton University’s Music department since September 1992, founding Director of their Fusion Ensemble from September 2007, and a Contract Instructor. Wayne has performed or recorded with Billy Kilson, David Torn, Ian Froman, Mike Milligan, The Bitches Brew Tribute Band, Adam Nussbaum, Ken Rosser, and Rob Fraboni. An endorsing artist for renowned instrument manufacturers, supported by arts councils and national radio networks, his performance history includes: jazz and blues festivals, The NAMM Show (Anaheim), university showcases, television broadcasts, radio simulcasts, and extensive club work. With several well-received recordings to his credit, Wayne has been praised by Guitar Player, Cadence and Music Etc., alongside All About Jazz, Audiophile Imports and Guitar Moderne websites.
/ Harrison Singer is an accomplished bassist, composer, and musical educator.
Throughout his career, has been an active and sought out member in the Ottawa/Gatineau Music scene. Participating in many area showcases, including the Ottawa Blues Festival and Ottawa Jazz Festival, in addition to many performances across Canada. Harrison graduated from the Carleton University Jazz Program with distinction in 2016. He has since been hired by various musicians to accompany them on national tours, as well as having been frequently engaged in studio recording sessions across genres.
/ Justine Walker is a drummer, instructor, and aspiring scholar.
An active musician throughout Ottawa, she engages in interesting performance opportunities from jazz fusion and musical theatre gigs, to experimental sound design and recording projects. Graduating from Carleton University's BMus Performance program in 2018, she studied with renowned drum instructor/journalist T. Bruce Wittet. In June 2024, she will obtain her M.A. in Music & Culture with a specialization in African Studies from Carleton University after successfully defending her thesis: Anti-Rap or Anti-Black?: A Critical Examination of White Moral Panic in Response to West Coast Gangsta Rap (supervised by Dr. Jesse Stewart). Justine began a Ph.D. in Critical Music Studies at Stony Brook University in New York fall 2024.

IMPORTANT ACCESSIBILITY INFO
We provide gender-neutral washrooms. We have one wheelchair accessible washroom. There is no wheelchair ramp. There is a set of 8 stairs to get into the building (7 steps, small landing, and then an 8th step). Once inside, the whole cafe floor is flat, with the exception of our small room to the side, which is a small step down.
We are licensed to provide alcohol, but serve a variety of non-alcoholic options.
This event takes place on the traditional unceded, unsurrendered territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin People.
