Odyssey Theatre Presents: The Girl With No Hands | Strathcona Park

Odyssey Theatre Presents: The Girl With No Hands | Strathcona Park

Jul 31, 2025 (UTC-5)
Ottawa
Arts Theater
Escape to an imaginative world under the stars where an unlikely heroine fights to rewrite her fate. On the lush banks of the Rideau River in beautiful Strathcona Park, Odyssey presents the world premiere of The Girl With No Hands — a darkly comic fantasy where dreams awaken new realities. When a troubled girl is offered an escape into an imaginative world, she becomes the reluctant heroine of a crumbling kingdom. Courted by a desperate King, entangled in the romantic schemes of an eccentric spirit, and hunted by a Devil hell-bent on destroying her, she must fight for control of her own story, while confronting demons within. Inspired by the Brothers Grimm folktale “The Handless Maiden,” which has long stood as a symbol of the feminine heroic journey, this story speaks to anyone who’s struggled to believe in their worth, their dreams, and their voice. Journey into a gothic, post-industrial dreamscape brimming with mischievous soaring spirits, a shape-shifting devil, and an unexpected heroine. Eight actors bring over 30 vivid characters to life through unique physical theatricality, original music, and neo-goth masks and costumes. All unfolding in a spectacular natural setting under a canopy of stars – this is outdoor theatre like you won’t see anywhere else. The play includes some strong language and brief references to drug abuse, suicide, and violence. Recommended for ages 12 and up. 🎟 Early Bird Discount: Save 25% when you buy before July 7 🎟 Opening Weekend Special: Save 50% on performances from July 31 - August 3 Rain Policy & Refunds Unless it’s raining at the start of a performance, the show will go on! Rage Theater Ball: Tetherball Tournament for Cancer Research! Date: Saturday, August 2nd, 2025 Time: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM EDT Location: Mooney's Bay Get ready, Ottawa, to unleash your competitive spirit for an incredible cause at the Rage Theater Ball! This event is all about channeling your energy into a powerful fight against cancer. It's not about anger; it's about RAGING AGAINST CANCER! The Rage Theater Ball is a non-profit event, and we're proud to announce that all leftover proceeds will be directly donated to vital cancer research initiatives. Your participation directly supports the search for breakthroughs that can save lives and bring hope to countless individuals and families. Tetherball Tournament: Go Head-to-Head for a Cause! The heart of the Rage Theater Ball is our exhilarating Tetherball Tournament! We're setting up multiple courts for non-stop action, with divisions for both men and women. How the Tournament Works: This isn't your average game of tetherball. We'll be running Round Robin sessions where the goal is to build the longest winning streak. Win a match, and you keep playing the next opponent. The player with the most consecutive wins in their division will be crowned the champion! Tie-Breaking Procedure: If there's a tie in consecutive wins, we'll look at the total number of individual matches won. If it's still a tie, get ready for a sudden-death playoff match between the tied players to determine who advances! Unleash Your Energy with Live Music! Between matches or when you need a break, immerse yourself in our live music jam session! We'll have a playing area set up for local musicians to share their talents, creating an electrifying atmosphere for everyone. Whether you want to listen, dance, or just soak in the good vibes, the music will keep the energy high all day long. Win Prizes & Bragging Rights! The champions of the Men's and Women's Tetherball Tournament will not only earn ultimate bragging rights but also receive a grand prize, including free entry to next year's Rage Theater Ball! Why You Should Be There: * Make an Impact: Every swing and every note helps fund crucial cancer research. * Active Fun: Enjoy a unique, active, and competitive day outdoors. * Great Music: Discover local talent and enjoy a fantastic live soundtrack. * Community Connection: Connect with others in Ottawa who are passionate about giving back. * Dedicate Your Rage: Participate in honor or memory of someone affected by cancer. Tickets will be available soon! Stay tuned for updates on registration and our official venue announcement. Let's hit the courts, enjoy some tunes, and rage against cancer, Ottawa!
