Pusongling Memorial Hall

The Pu Songling Memorial Hall, which was built on the site of Pu Songling's former residence, repaired and greened the former residence, Liuquan and cemetery, and successively requisitioned several houses to the north and west of the former residence, which were gradually opened up as academic research exhibition rooms and reception rooms. A flower wall was built on the cemetery, steps were added to Liuquan, and the Pu Songling tombstone, Liuquan stele and Pu's tombstone were re-engraved, and a series of greening was carried out.

The courtyard of Pu Songling's former residence faces south and has four entrances, with a side courtyard in the west. The moon gate and flower wall in the courtyard are staggered, and the mountains, rocks and pools complement each other. The three main rooms in the north courtyard are "Liao Zhai". There are two side rooms in the east and west of the main house, which is a typical northern farmhouse building. Pu Songling's former residence has been inhabited by his descendants since his death. Later, it was destroyed for some reason and the owner fled to Liaoning in Northeast China. This was restored in the 1950s. When you walk into the main house, you can see Pu Songling's portrait. On both sides of the portrait are hung the couplet "Writing ghosts and monsters is one level higher than others, and criticizing corruption and cruelty is three points deep into the bones". To the west is Mr. Pu Songling's reception room, where there is the couch he used in those days, and a small low table in the middle of the guest room, where you can sit cross-legged. There are also desks and inkstones used by Mr. Pu under the south window. They look simple and ordinary, but they seem to tell us that Mr. Pu was full of talent and felt that his talent was not appreciated, as well as his desolation and persistence. On the east side is Mr. Pu’s bedroom. On the 22nd day of the first lunar month in 1715, Mr. Pu died on this kang, “sitting leaning against the window.” At the head of the kang is a tin table lamp unearthed from Mr. Pu’s tomb.

Behind the main house of Liaozhai, there are 6 painting and calligraphy exhibition rooms, which display various works of Pu Songling researchers at home and abroad, as well as paintings and calligraphy and inscriptions made by contemporary famous calligraphers and painters for the former residence. These paintings and calligraphy reflect the admiration of Mr. Pu Songling by later generations and the profound influence of Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio on later generations.

In order to help tourists better understand the story content of "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio", the staff of Pu Songling's former residence selected ten representative stories in the colored sculpture exhibition room, and presented the main plots of the stories to tourists in a three-dimensional and vivid way in the form of clay sculptures. The vivid and lifelike clay sculptures can more vividly bring tourists into a magical and wonderful world of foxes, ghosts, immortals and monsters...
