Huijing Temple in Xi'an's Baqiao District: A Look Back at History from the Well

Huijing Temple, located on the west section of Dongcheng Avenue in the Chanba Ecological District of Xi'an, is an ancient temple with Ming and Qing architectural styles. Huijing Temple was originally the Bangzi Well Temple. In December 1936, General Zhang Xueliang intercepted young students who were going to Lintong to petition for resistance against Japan. He stood on the steps of the Bangzi Well Temple and delivered a speech, persuading the students to return to Xi'an. This prevented a potential bloodshed. Later, the two patriotic generals, Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng, launched the Xi'an Incident that shocked China and the world. At that time, the Bangzi Well Temple covered an area of 18 mu. Address: 100m northwest of the intersection of Dongcheng Avenue and Guanting Overpass, Baqiao District, Xi'an Opening hours: 08:00–18:00 Transportation: Take bus No. 125 or No. 256 and get off at the Yujin Cheng Bus Dispatch Station. The temple is within walking distance.
