The Colorful World of Tang Sancai

Some say Tang Sancai refers to its three common colors, while others argue it has more than three colors, with "three" meaning "many." So, Tang Sancai is actually "Tang Duocai" (Tang Multicolor). I'd say neither adequately captures the essence of this low-temperature glazed pottery of the era. Color is merely its simplest external feature. When we look at what it represents about the Tang Dynasty, we see it showcasing the splendor of the prosperous Tang period: the Silk Road, women, the workplace, Buddhism, home life, entertainment, diplomacy – all fascinating and thought-provoking… This is the Tang Sancai Museum, a private museum located in Xingqing Palace, one of the three inner palaces of the Tang Dynasty capital Chang'an.
