Seven Stars

There are quite a few pubs with claims based on age - oldest riverside pub (Prospect of Whitby?) oldest city pub (Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese?) but simply being the oldest pub in London must be the real accolade. Researchers last year came to a more definitive conclusion than I've seen in the past on this topic. They agreed that having been built in 1602, the Seven Stars in Carey Street behind the High Court was actually the oldest. The pub's an interesting little spot. Two small dining rooms sit each side of the bar. The beer choice is Adnams and Greene King but the food is what makes this place work. The kitchen is tiny and up a narrow and rickety curved staircase behind the bar. It produces some great dishes though, and they are available seven days a week which in this area is rare.
