From Gothic to Renaissance: A Church Built on an Ancient Mosque

Exploring the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Toledo (Region) This tower replaced the old spire and was constructed in the 16th century. It is still unclear who created it, but all evidence suggests that it was designed collaboratively by Antón Egas and Alonso de Covarrubias. The church features three naves, with the central nave being taller. It includes a choir with seating and an anonymous altarpiece from the Correa de Vivar school. Notable highlights include the sacristy and the Church of Saint Giles (patron saint of Torrijos). From the exterior, the church is clearly a prime example of the transition from Gothic to Renaissance style. Its flying buttresses and gargoyles on both sides, along with the color of the building itself, are standout features.
