Maijishan Grottoes: The world's only mud sculpture art.

Maijishan Grottoes are located in the mountains about 30 km southeast of Tianshui City. The caves are located on the cliff face, 20–80 meters above the ground. From a distance, the caves look like a stack of wheat, which is how the grottoes got their name. The Maijishan Grottoes have the oldest and most complete collection of mud sculptures in China. The sculptures are exquisitely made. The 209 caves are all carved into the rock face. From the Later Qin and Northern Wei dynasties to the Song dynasty, mud sculptures from different dynasties stand side by side, each with their own unique style. The sculptures are lifelike, with delicate facial features. Some are gentle and beautiful, while others are dignified and wise. Their vivid smiles and expressions are lifelike.
