Moments and Eternity - Polish Amber Culture and Art Exhibition at Tianjin Museum

I have been to Tianjin several times recently, but each visit was a hurried one! Having come to Tianjin again recently, I finally had some time to visit the Tianjin Museum, where I was fortunate to encounter the ongoing 'Moments and Eternity - Polish Amber Culture and Art Exhibition'. I gained an in-depth understanding of the history of amber culture, admired the achievements of amber art at different historical stages, and enjoyed a dazzling visual feast. Amber is currently the lightest organic gemstone in the world. Millions of years ago, massive tertiary trees produced a large amount of resin, which, over tens of millions of years, solidified into fossils through geological processes such as washing, transport, and deposition, thus being discovered by people. Amber carries a history of tens of millions of years, and has always had a mysterious aura and rich connotations since ancient times. Poland is a beautiful country located in the heart of Europe, bordered by Germany to the west, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south, Ukraine and Belarus to the east, and the picturesque Baltic Sea to the north. The world's finest amber is mostly found along the coast of the Baltic Sea, with the amber from Gdańsk, Poland, being the best. Gdańsk has been an important center of amber trade since ancient times, earning Poland the nickname 'The Land of Amber'. The exhibition carefully selects Baltic Sea amber ore, amber archaeology, insect amber, plant amber, aqueous amber, as well as exquisite Polish amber jewelry and sculptural art pieces, along with the Tianjin Museum's own collection of amber treasures, totaling more than 300 sets. It integrates knowledge from multiple disciplines such as geology, gemology, zoology, and botany, systematically narrating the formation, distribution, history, and cultural art of Baltic Sea amber, as well as natural and humanistic knowledge. The exhibition comprehensively presents the evolution of Polish amber jewelry styles over the past half-century and the exchange and integration of Eastern and Western cultures, exploring the mysterious world of amber.
