Wat Mahathat Ming Muang

A temple belonging to the Mahanikaya sect, Wat Mahathat, or its former name Wat Ming Muang, is called Wat That or Wat Phra That Nakhon by locals. It is located in Nakhon Phanom on the banks of the Mekong River. It is a temple with a chedi enshrining the relics of the Arahant, along with a golden Buddha statue, and many other chedis. The Phra That Nakhon has intricate and exquisite designs. It is square in shape, following the style of Phra That Phanom. There are various patterns and designs on the door, made of flower and vine patterns. The top is shaped like a lotus bud and has a seven-tiered copper umbrella. The top of this umbrella has a single cut glass ball at the top of the pagoda. Wat Mahathat is a temple for people born on Saturday. People who come to pay homage will have good karma and receive merit, leading to prosperity.
