The Former Mitsui & Co., Ltd. Building

The Former Mitsui & Co., Ltd. Building is a designated historic site located in the Taipei Station Front Shopping District in Zhongzheng District, Taipei City. Designed by Ichiro Nomura, it was completed in 1922 and is adjacent to the former Kuan Yeh Bank building. The three-story building featured a rare elevator in its lobby at the time. The corner of the exterior originally had a lookout tower with a pointed roof, showcasing the Renaissance style popular at the time. However, during the Showa era around the 1940s, parts of the beams and columns were severely damaged by termites, leading to renovations. The design direction was changed to feature horizontal window frames and extended balconies, with gables protruding at the corners and ends of the wings, decorated with four straight small columns, clearly reflecting the modernist trend of simplicity. 📍Address: No. 54, Guanqian Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City 100
