Bell-Shaped Main Stupa in Sri Lankan Style The main stupa of Wat Sra Sri is a large, circular bell-shaped stupa influenced by Sri Lankan art, unlike the alms-bunch-shaped stupa of Wat Mahathat. This complete structure, standing tall in the center of an island, is significant evidence of the Buddhist influence from Sri Lanka to Sukhothai. Ubosot in the Water (Nathi Sima/Uthoka Sima) A striking feature of the temple, the main stupa (ordination hall) is situated on a small island within a pond. The construction of this main stupa in the water is in accordance with Buddhist beliefs to mark the Sima, or area for monks to perform religious duties, a place of purity. Large Vihara with a Stucco Buddha Image in the Mara-Vijaya Posture In front of the main stupa is a large vihara, which once housed a stucco Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture (now only the base and laterite pillars remain). Standing in the ruins of the vihara surrounded by the pond exudes a sense of devotion and solemnity.
