Australian geologist J. Jance said, "Yunnan Shilin is the largest and most beautiful sword-shaped karst area in the world." Hungarian scholar Balazs defined the term "stone forest" as referring to "Yunnan Shilin" in his systematic study of Yunnan Shilin. Shilin is the world's oldest karst landform, with the largest distribution area, complete types, and unique forms. It is known as the world's number one wonder. The Greater Stone Forest is composed of dense stone peaks. The stone forest here is upright and abrupt, with smooth lines. The most famous is the stone forest wonder where Long Yun inscribed the words "Shilin."
