Tushanwan, isn't this name special? Isn't it incredible to appear in the center of Xujiahui? Everything has to start with Zhaojiabang Road, which runs through the center of Xujiahui. In Shanghai, any place name with "bang" means a river. The historical background of Zhaojiabang Road can be traced back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. At that time, it was an important irrigation river in the western suburbs, connecting the old county town of Shanghai and Songjiang City, and was an important grain transportation river. Zhaojiabang was originally a river. In 1954, the river was changed to a road, forming a main road running through the east and west of Xujiahui. Tushanwan is a place where the soil dug out from the dredging river was piled up to form a small hill, so it got the name Tushanwan. After 1864, missionaries built orphanages, orphan craft workshops, Tushanwan Art Museum and other facilities on the Tushanwan Highlands, which is the birthplace of Chinese Western painting, and created a generation of painting masters - Xu Beihong. In June 2010, the Tushanwan Museum was completed and opened to the public. The treasure of the museum is the masterpiece of the orphanage - boxwood archway (photo 2).
