Shet Shan 1956 (Sham Shui Po)

Having opened its doors 65 years ago, @shetshan1956 is a traditional cha chaan teng serving up all sorts of nostalgic HK-style comfort food 🇭🇰 Being a huge fan of sweet and sour pork, I was surprised to try dragon fruit replacing the traditional pineapple for the first time in my life. The flavor was more on the sweet side and an extra pop of color was added to the dish, along with the yellow, green and red peppers 🫑 (Note: You can add on drinks or stew and white/oil rice to make it a set) The chilli pepper gave a slight spiciness to the fried rice while the pork chop was juicy and well flavored. The portion was a little too big though so we couldn’t finish all the fried rice, which was packed with scrambled egg and pepper bits 🙈 Can we just take a moment to admire the melted cheese oozing out of the burger? No wonder it’s one of their signature dishes (marked with a mountain icon on the menu). The over easy egg and tender beef patty had an Asian twist when compared to the classic western burger 🍔 Another must-order is their fried chicken leg spiced with garlic and chilli powder, aka the uniquely bold Canto bei fung tong (typhoon shelter) seasoning. The crispy skin was super on point, but the meat could have been a tad more succulent 🍗 Drinks-wise, highly recommend the nourishing Chinese stew, in which they will write the daily flavor on a board outside of the shop (ours was cordyceps, lean meat and goji berries).
