[Miyagi] Sendai Toshogu Shrine

#0YenTravel2025Autumn Sendai Toshogu Shrine was founded in 1654 by Date Tadamune, the second lord of the Sendai domain. This site is said to be the place where Tokugawa Ieyasu rested under Date Masamune's guidance. Located exactly northeast of Sendai Castle (in the northeast direction), it is enshrined as the guardian deity of the Date clan and the Sendai castle town. Stone Torii (National Important Cultural Property) This beautiful white torii gate, built in the style of a Myojin torii gate, is the oldest stone torii gate in Miyagi Prefecture. Zuishinmon (National Important Cultural Property) This two-story gate is flanked by two zuishin statues. Main Hall (National Important Cultural Property) The main hall is the most important building where the enshrined deity is enshrined. It is decorated with carvings of hawks, heavenly maidens, and dragons, and is adorned with cloisonné metalwork, a cutting-edge technique at the time. Since you can't enter the main hall, you can pray at the worship hall. It's also said to be a power spot that brings good luck in work and business prosperity. When I visited, the cherry blossoms were beautiful. I'm sure it's also beautiful in the fall when the leaves change color.
