[Historical Background] Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a city full of sorrow but still striving to live. This was the spark that ignited the First World War. During the Bosnian War from April 1992 to February 1996, the Yugoslav People's Army laid siege to Sarajevo, surrounding the city with artillery and tanks. The Bosnian War was the longest siege urban war since World War II and the largest local war in Europe. The Serbs carried out ethnic cleansing against the Muslims. The entire war resulted in the deaths of 250,000 people and 2 million people became refugees. Sniper Avenue leads to the old city, and machine gun bullet holes can still be seen along the way. Sarajevo is also the city where the story of Sammi Cheng's song "Romeo and Juliet in Sarajevo" was based. During the Yugoslav period, Sarajevo had a brief period of glory and the 1984 Winter Olympics was held here. [Tunnel of Hope] is located next to Sarajevo International Airport. It is 1.5 kilometers long and currently only part of it is open to tourists. During the Yugoslav siege of Sarajevo, international relief supplies were transported into the city through this tunnel. The tunnel has a limited height and you could hit your head after walking just a short distance, but fortunately I had a helmet to protect me. The Sarajevo blood-red rose at the entrance of the tunnel is the trace left after the locals filled the bomb craters with red paint.
