Dragon Head Black Canyon

The Longshou Canal is the predecessor of the Luogu Canal area. It was first built during the reign of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty, more than 2,100 years ago, and is a famous A comprehensive water conservancy project that integrates multiple functions such as irrigation to benefit farmers and improvement of saline-alkali land. From the third year of Yuanshou to the sixth year of Yuanfeng during the reign of Emperor Wu of Han, Emperor Wu adopted Zhuang Xiongpi's suggestion to build the Longshou Canal. The dragon bones were found while digging the canal, so it was named the Longshou Canal. The well-channel method was first used during construction, setting a precedent for underground channel construction in China. In the first year of Qinglong reign of Emperor Ming of Wei during the Three Kingdoms period, Cao Rui built the Linjin Dam and diverted the Luo River to irrigate hundreds of hectares of saline land, enriching the country. In the second year of Baoding in the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Emperor Yuwen Yong reopened the Longshou Canal for expanded irrigation. In the seventh year of Kaiyuan in the Tang Dynasty, Jiang Shiqing diverted the Luo River to the ancient Tongling Pond to irrigate rice fields and harvested tens of thousands of rice. The irrigation method of diverting Luo River to Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties has been passed down from generation to generation and has its own unique features. During the Republic of China period, Yang Hucheng advocated and Li Yizhi planned to build the Luohui Canal, one of the eight canals in Guanzhong, on the basis of the Longshou Canal. Today, Luohui Canal has become the largest gravity irrigation project in the Beiluo River Basin, benefiting 743,000 acres of farmland in Chengcheng, Dali and Pucheng counties, and is an important base for famous grains and fruits in Shaanxi Province. On December 8, 2020, the Longshou Canal Luogu Irrigation District was successfully included in the World Heritage List of Irrigation Projects, and was awarded the first world-class water conservancy cultural business card of Weinan City.
