Eluanbi Lighthouse

Eluanbi Lighthouse, located within Eluanbi Park at Taiwan's southernmost tip, is renowned as the "Light of East Asia." Built in 1883 during the Qing Dynasty, it was originally constructed to ensure the safety of passing ships and to defend against local indigenous attacks. Its unique design includes fortress-like walls and gun ports, making it one of the world's rare armed lighthouses. The lighthouse stands at a height of 21.4 meters, painted entirely in white, and is equipped with a first-order rotating lens electric lamp with a luminous intensity of 1,800,000 candlepower. It was once the most powerful lighthouse in East Asian waters. Even today, it remains the most luminous lighthouse on Taiwan's main island, guiding ships navigating the Bashi Channel. This historic white structure is not only a vital maritime beacon but also a famous landmark of Kenting National Park, showcasing its captivating charm both day and night.
