Hidden in Yueyang, Hunan, is an underrated off-the-beaten-path attraction—Pingjiang Shiniuzhai! Here you’ll find spectacular Danxia landforms and thrilling high-altitude activities. Best of all, there are fewer crowds, beautiful scenery, and great photo opportunities 📸 🌄 Must-try experiences: 1️⃣ Glass Bridge Viewing: A 188-meter-long fully transparent glass bridge (be cautious if you’re afraid of heights). Standing on the bridge offers a 360° panoramic view of Shiniuzhai, and on sunny days, the mountain reflections are stunning. 2️⃣ Cliffside Walkway Hiking: A walkway built along the cliffside, with the mountain on one side and a cliff on the other—an exhilarating experience! Comfortable sneakers are recommended 👟 3️⃣ Via Ferrata Climbing: A beginner-friendly climbing route with professional instructors. It’s very safe but super exciting, and the views during the climb are absolutely worth it. 4️⃣ Fairy Lake Boating: Be sure to choose a transparent boat! The emerald green water paired with the surrounding red Danxia formations makes every photo a masterpiece. The best light is around 4-5 PM. 🍜 Food Bonus: At the entrance, the “Shiniuzhai Farmhouse” serves amazing Pingjiang dried tofu! Crispy on the outside, tender inside, paired with special chili sauce—perfect after a hike. The owner’s homemade fermented tofu is also a unique treat~ 💡 Tips: ▫️ Plan to spend 4-5 hours here; mornings have fewer people and better photo conditions. ▫️ The glass bridge sways, so avoid wearing skirts to prevent exposure. ▫️ Buy tickets online 2 hours in advance for a discount (remember to choose the package including the glass bridge). ▫️ The parking lot is large but very sunny in summer, so bring an umbrella. Who would have thought such a geological wonder is so close to Changsha? For those looking for a less crowded destination, this is a must-go! On the way back, I also picked up a jar of homemade sweet potato snacks from a local farm—so sweet and simply delightful~
