My experience visiting Penghu Tianhou Temple and Old Street

#2月好地方2025 This visit to the Tianhou Temple and Old Street in Penghu gave me a deeper understanding of the local history and culture. First we came to Penghu Tianhou Temple, which is not only one of the oldest Mazu temples in Taiwan, but also carries the faith and protection of local residents. The architecture of the temple is very elegant. The carvings and paintings on the eaves demonstrate exquisite traditional craftsmanship, especially the wood carvings on the dragon pillars and the main hall, which make people admire the craftsmanship of ancient craftsmen. When I was worshipping in the temple, I could feel the piety of the believers and the peaceful atmosphere, which also gave me a deeper understanding of the influence of Mazu belief. After leaving Tianhou Temple, I walked into Penghu Old Street, where many quaint red brick buildings and traditional street houses are preserved, full of a strong historical atmosphere. The small shops along the street sell a variety of local specialties, such as cactus ice, peanut crisps, and seafood-based delicacies, which will make people linger. I particularly like the stone carvings and old-style buildings that can be seen everywhere in the alleys, which bear witness to Penghu’s prosperous commercial activities and unique lifestyle in the past. This visit not only allowed me to appreciate Penghu’s historical buildings, but also allowed me to better understand the local culture and customs. Whether it was beliefs, food or architectural style, they all showed Penghu’s unique charm. This trip has been very rewarding for me, and I look forward to exploring more of Penghu next time.
