Orimattila Church

The church of the Finnish town Orimattila was finished in 1866. It is located at the heart of the town and principal building material is Finnish granite stone. It was designed by architect Jean Wik and follows empire style design tradition. During the winter war between Finland and Russia, the church tower temporarily served as an aviation observation tower to observe the Russian aircraft in Finnish airspace. The church area consists of many buildings such as the old principal priest house, cemetery and of course the church itself that can host 1200 people at a time. At some point it was even more due to temporary constructions, even 1700 people at a time. The church admission is free but it’s not open for public during the winter months. From the church office, groups can ask for a guided tour to the church Mon-Tue 12-15 or Wed-Thu 9-12. #momentsmission #finland #orimattila #church #oldchurch
