Tonno Bridge in Orimattila

If you drive from Helsinki to Orimattila using the main highway number 4, you will automatically arrive to the vicinity of Tonno bridge. Actually the name is Tönnö Bridge so the O-letters both have two dots on them and they’re pronounced differently in Finnish. The bridge was Finished in 1911 and it’s the first steel enforced concrete bridge built to the highway system in Finland (or in the Finnish highway system to be precise). The bridge is 37 meters long and 6,5 meters wide. The building cost was spectacularly low in today’s standards costing only some 2500 US dollars to build. It was in full daily use until year 1971 when it was replaced by a nearby newer and bigger bridge which also leads the traffic away from the nearby houses. The bridge was accepted to be a landmark and museum bridge in 1982 and renovated between 1986-1987. Tonno bridge can be accessed for free by anyone around the clock and the attractions signs are in place to guide people there.
