The Opole Silesia Gallery Museum

The Opole Silesia Museum is an institution with over 120 years of tradition. It was founded in 1900 as the City Museum in Opole (Städtisches Museum Oppeln). In 1950, its name was changed to the Opole Silesia Museum, under which it operates today. From the beginning of its existence, the Museum was a multi-department institution. Currently, it consists of seven substantive departments: Archaeology, Museum Education, Ethnography, History, Nature, Art and the Monument Conservation Workshop. In Opole, the Museum has several exhibition facilities: the baroque former Jesuit building and the new exhibition pavilion form the Main Building at Mały Rynek 7. Right next to it, at ul. Saint Wojciecha 9 there is a Tenement House, and at ul. Ozimska 10, in the building of a 19th-century inn, there is the Gallery of the Opole Silesia Museum. In Góra św. Anna, there is a branch of the institution - the Museum of Insurgent Action. This is a regional museum with over a hundred years of history! This is where you can see a model of Opole from the mid-18th century, a collection of extraordinary excavations from an ancient settlement in Ostrówek in Opole, but also extraordinary Tułowice porcelain and a collection of works by Jan Cybis. A unique attraction is the tenement house at ul. Saint Wojciecha 9, in which five apartments are presented: each in the style that was in force in the furniture industry in the years 1890 - 1965. In addition to furniture, kitchen appliances and trinkets that created the atmosphere of the house, various ways of heating rooms are presented - tiled stoves and cast iron stoves. Hygiene equipment is also exhibited. A big challenge was to show the equipment used to prepare food. #opole #poland #museum
