Nationally Protected Cultural Relic Mengzhe Manduan Temple

Arrive at Xishuangbanna Gasa Airport and head straight to Mengzhe Manduan Temple in Menghai County. The driver was curious and said that he often travels between Banna and Jingmai Mountain, but is unfamiliar with Manduan Temple. Manduan Temple is located in Manduan Village, Mengzhe Town, Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is called "Wala Zhatan" in Dai language. According to historical records, the temple was built in 312 of the Dai calendar (950 AD) and is one of the earliest temples built after the introduction of Theravada Buddhism. During the "Four Olds" movement, only the main hall was used as a granary and was not destroyed. It is an important place for spreading religion and popularizing traditional Dai culture. Even though it has been included in the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units, Manduan Temple does not charge admission fees 🎫, and there are not many tourists, so it is very quiet. The temple consists of a gate pavilion, a main hall, a precept hall, a pagoda, a monk's house, and a drum house. The main hall is located in the center of the entire temple, built on a white Sumeru base, with a double-eaved roof and a beautiful shape. The beams and columns in the hall are painted with dragons, phoenixes, and various auspicious patterns. The outer walls are painted with classical Dai murals, depicting the "Jataka" and beautiful patterns of rare birds and animals.
