Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion

Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion, another national cultural relic protection unit in Menghai, was built in the 40th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1701 AD), the 1063rd year of the Dai calendar. It is said that a monk named Ting Bangjiao sent people to Myanmar and Thailand to seek experience and bring back drawings, and invited a Han craftsman from Pu'er to guide the construction of the tower. Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion is located on Jingzhen Mountain. As you climb the steps, you will see statues of monks on both sides. Their faces are delicate and their expressions vary, but they all look happy and peaceful. Their lips are closed and slightly upturned, and they seem to have been re-gilded. After climbing the slope, you will see the Great Buddha Hall on the left and Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion on the right. The dark red color of the pavilion is not as dazzling as the golden Great Buddha Hall from a distance, but when you get closer, you will be amazed by its beauty. The pavilion consists of a base, a pavilion body, and an octagonal ten-story pavilion. The pavilion body has four doors, and the walls are covered with light red mud, inlaid with various colored glass, and printed with various patterns of flowers, animals, and people in gold and silver powder. The roof is layered, and the top of the tower is a rod-shaped tower brake. The brake rod is equipped with metal sheets engraved with mesh-shaped whistle eyes. When the wind blows, the whistle sounds. As a precept hall in the Theravada Buddhist architecture, Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion is a place for chanting, confession, meetings, and discussions. Major affairs and religious activities are decided here.
