Daikojima Charm and Shine

#cherryblossom2024 Hundreds of plants in the middle of the lagoon Daikon Island is best known for peonies and ginseng, which grow in the Yushi Garden, located in the center of Nakaumi Lagoon. How to get there Yuxi Garden is a half—hour bus ride from Matsue Station along one of the three roads running through the lagoon. There are several buses stopping near the garden, but it is best to take a regular bus that goes to Sakaiminato and Yonago Airport in Tottori Prefecture. Local buses run from Sakaiminato to Yushi Garden. It is said that the inhabitants of the island gave it the unattractive name Daikonjima, "radish island", to discourage outsiders from raiding the precious ginseng. To get additional income, the islanders began to grow peonies as well. Unfading beauty Yuxi Garden is a huge territory with an area of more than 30 thousand square meters, with reservoirs, bridges and tea houses. Every season, gardeners create new compositions of different flowers and plants. Azaleas and other rhododendrons, peonies and irises are planted here. Sakura blooms here in spring, and hydrangeas and water lilies in summer. There is a huge greenhouse in the garden where you can see blooming peonies all year round Have lunch with a view of the garden You can relax and pamper yourself with local delicacies in one of the four restaurants. There are wonderful views of the garden from there at any time of the year. Take a look at the Ichibo Tea House with panoramic windows and admire the white sand and pine grove reflected in the surface of the pond. From time to time, the garden remains open after dark, then you can walk along the paths decorated with bright illumination. The souvenir shop sells a variety of ginseng products. And Sakura here is so charming!
