Longmen Grottoes.

🐉The Longmen Grottoes, together with the Mogao Caves, Maijishan Grottoes, and Yungang Grottoes, are known as the Four Great Grottoes of China. The Longmen Grottoes were first built in the 5th century when the Northern Wei Dynasty moved its capital from Pingcheng to Luoyang. They were built on the Yi River and were named Longmen (Dragon Gate) because they were directly opposite the palace gate. 🐉The Lushena Buddha in Fengxian Temple was carved with a donation of 20,000 guan from Empress Wu Zetian. It is grand in scale, with a round and kind face and a smile, looking down at all living beings. It is said that the craftsmen carved it according to the appearance of Wu Zetian. Standing under the Buddha and looking up, staring at the kind eyes, until tears filled the eyes before moving. This feeling cannot be experienced by watching videos and pictures. ​🐉The three caves of Binyang were first carved in the Northern Wei Dynasty, but only the middle cave of Binyang was completed. The north and south caves were not completed until the Tang Dynasty, so the middle cave retains the classic style of the Northern Wei Dynasty with wide clothes and wide belts, thin bones and clear images, and a smile (similar to the queen image of the Maijishan Grottoes), while the north and south caves are the round and plump style of the Tang Dynasty. ​🐉The most beautiful Bodhisattva statue and the mural Bodhisattva statue of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang have the same beauty. The posture is graceful and the accessories are exquisite. ​🐉The Longmen Grottoes were severely stolen. The ninth picture shows the Buddha head stored in the Tokyo National Museum in Japan, many of which were stolen from the Longmen Grottoes.
