Church of the Knights of Santiago

Andalusia Tour ~ Cordoba (Region) This cathedral is in Gothic-Mudéjar style and was built in the 16th century. The church was founded in 1503 by Garci Méndez de Sotomayor, commander of the Knights of Santiago. Until 1891, it served as a satellite church of San Mateo Parish. The church is rectangular in plan and divided into three naves by octagonal columns supporting pointed arches framed by an alfiz. The church is covered with artesonado (Spanish ceiling). The roof is gabled. The access to the church is through a low arch decorated with scalloped details and a doorpost consisting of composite columns. The obverse has an image of Santiago. Declared a Historic-Artistic Monument. #2024TravelReview #SpainTravel #Andalucia
