Erskine Falls Travel Guide

Erskine Falls is located in the western outskirts of Lorne, a small town along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. It is the tallest waterfall in the Otway region, with a drop of approximately 30 meters, nestled within the lush rainforest of Great Otway National Park. To reach the falls, start from the Lorne Visitor Information Centre, head south along Mountjoy Parade, turn right onto Williams Street, and then drive along Erskine Falls Road for about 12 minutes. At the top of the falls, there is a viewing platform offering a breathtaking view of the cascading water. For a closer experience, take the stone steps down to the base of the falls, where you can feel the refreshing mist up close. The gorge is lined with ferns, creating a magical, fairy-tale-like atmosphere. It is recommended to allocate 1–2 hours for the visit. Wear non-slip shoes and be cautious of slippery surfaces during the rainy season. Note that there are no restrooms at the parking lot near the falls, so plan accordingly and use facilities in Lorne beforehand. Nearby attractions include watching the sunset at Lorne Pier and spotting koalas at Kennett River. If you have more time, consider staying overnight in a forest cabin or a seaside guesthouse in Lorne, and continue your journey the next day to iconic Great Ocean Road destinations like the Twelve Apostles.
