Lu Han Mansion in Kunming

Lu Han Mansion in Kunming, also known as the "Yunnan Uprising Memorial Hall," is located at No. 4, Cuihu South Road. Covering an area of approximately 6,205 square meters, it is a French-style garden and private residence that served as the private home and office of Lu Han, the then chairman of Yunnan Province. The mansion consists of a new and an old mansion. The old mansion, built in the 1930s, is a two-story French-style brick and stone structure. Many of the stone components are decorated with relief carvings, the doors, windows, and interior decorations are all made of imported teak, and the interior is equipped with a fireplace. The new mansion, built in the 1940s, is a two-story Western-style villa with a minimalist design. On the evening of December 9, 1949, Lu Han detained Zhang Qun, the then Kuomintang Southwest Military and Political Chief, Li Mi, Commander of the Eighth Army, Yu Chengwan, Commander of the Twenty-sixth Army, and Shen Zui, head of the Yunnan Station of the Military Statistics Bureau, in the mansion, and announced the peaceful uprising of Yunnan. The Lu Han Mansion in Kunming witnessed the significant historical event of the Yunnan Peaceful Uprising, and holds high historical and architectural value. It was designated as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 2019.
