The mansion of the 'Last King of Yunnan' by the Cui Lake has become an important witness to Yunnan's history

The Yunnan Uprising Memorial Hall is located opposite the east gate of Cuihu Park. It was established using the former residence of Lu Han, the chairman of Yunnan Province. Lu's mansion was a private garden-style residence during the Republic of China period and also served as his important office. The memorial hall restores the scenes of that time through real-life restoration, combined with related objects, pictures, texts, wax figures, and other simulated displays, recreating the true scenes of the significant historical event of the Yunnan Uprising. At the end of 1949, the People's Liberation Army advanced to the southwest. On the evening of December 9, Lu Han, under the pretext of holding an important military meeting, detained the heads of the Kuomintang stationed in Yunnan, including Zhang Qun, the chief officer of the Southwest Command, Li Mi, the commander of the Eighth Army, Yu Chengwan, the commander of the Twenty-Sixth Army, and Shen Zui, the head of the Yunnan station of the Bureau of Investigation and Statistics, removing obstacles to the Yunnan Uprising. That evening, he led his troops to announce the Yunnan Uprising. Before the liberation army arrived, they fought fiercely with the heavily armed central Kuomintang army until our army arrived, the Battle of Kunming was won, and Yunnan was peacefully liberated. Lu Han's mansion witnessed the entire process of this magnificent peaceful uprising in Yunnan and holds significant revolutionary historical importance. The mansion is divided into the old mansion and the new mansion. The old mansion, built in 1933, is a brick-wood structure and a purely French-style villa, which is currently the best-preserved and largest French-style building in Kunming. The new mansion is a Soviet-style villa. After the liberation, Lu Han donated this building to the Yunnan Provincial People's Government. Currently, the old mansion is officially open to the public as the Yunnan Uprising Memorial Hall.
