🇪🇬🏛️ A Grand Experience: Visiting the GEM - The Grand Egyptian Museum!

#summervacay I recently had the incredible opportunity to visit the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), a place originally slated to open in 2020 but finally (and grandly!) opened its doors in late 2024. Perhaps all that anticipation made it the most anticipated archaeological museum globally! This colossal project, built with a staggering $1 billion investment and spanning 500,000 square meters, offers a vastly improved experience compared to the old museum. It's a remarkably modern and sophisticated museum, with excellent air conditioning – almost a little chilly, in fact! As you wander through its halls, you might even find yourself momentarily wondering if you've stepped into the Egyptian section of the Metropolitan Museum or perhaps the British Museum's Egyptian galleries. It's truly on that level! And here's a crucial tip: their gift shop is absolutely fantastic! We ended up with bags and bags of souvenirs, as you can see in the first photo. It's definitely a place where you'll want to set aside some extra time (and budget!) for unique finds.
