Baiyin, Gansu - Yellow River Stone Forest Park

Yellow River Stone Forest Park is located in the southeast of Jingtai County, Baiyin, Gansu, China.  Overview - Geology and landforms: Composed of orange-yellow sandstone, the stone forest was formed 4 million years ago as a result of the Yanshan Movement, crustal uplift, riverbed downcutting, and geological processes such as weathering, rain erosion, and gravitational collapse. - Ecological environment: Located in the transition zone between the Loess Plateau and the Tengger Desert, the park has two ecosystems: the Longwan Oasis and the Batan Gobi Desert. The plants are mostly drought-tolerant species such as black thorn and red sand, while the animals are mostly small mammals and birds. - Scenic area size: The scenic area covers an area of 34 square kilometers, of which the stone forest covers an area of 10 square kilometers. Scenic area features - Unique landscape: The park combines stone forests, the Yellow River, gobi deserts, sand dunes, and oases. It features towering stone forests in various shapes and the Longwan Oasis formed by the meandering Yellow River. - Cultural heritage: Laolongwan has a rich and profound Yellow River culture dating back hundreds of years. Visitors can experience western folk customs and participate in bonfire parties. - Entertainment: Visitors can enjoy sheepskin raft drifting, sand sliding, collecting Yellow River stones, and riding animal-drawn carts through the stone forest.
