The Peninsula Hong Kong was officially opened on December 11, 1928, and has a history of over 93 years. It has always been one of the most famous and luxurious hotels in the world. Standing on the waterfront of Tsim Sha Tsui for nearly a hundred years, it has witnessed the changes in Hong Kong and has evolved with the progress of the times. It is a part of Hong Kong's history and has great architectural value. The hotel building has been rated as a Grade 1 historic building by the Antiquities and Monuments Office. The Peninsula Hong Kong is designed and built in Baroque Revival style. The facade of the building is decorated with a large number of classical features, such as stone carvings, arched windows, keystones, etc. The strongly protruding eaves give the building an Italian-style luxurious architectural appearance. There is a marble fountain in the small square in front of the main entrance of the hotel, which follows the fountain-centric style of Italian cities! There are a lot of neoclassical and Baroque decorations inside the hotel, which is quite gorgeous and impressive! Before the 1950s, the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong was seven stories high and was the tallest building in Kowloon. At that time, the Peninsula Hotel was known as the "Lady of the Far East" and was one of the most advanced and luxurious hotels in Asia. It has received countless celebrities, including: former US President Nixon, international superstars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, Queen Madonna, NBA star Michael Jordan, etc. When Queen Elizabeth II visited Hong Kong, she also specified to stay at the Peninsula! After many repairs and expansions over the years, a new 30-storey wing was added to the north of the hotel. There is a heliport on the top floor, which allows important guests to travel directly to and from Hong Kong International Airport or fly over Hong Kong by helicopter. In addition, the hotel purchased a fleet of Rolls-Royce luxury cars in 1970, setting a record for the most expensive order in the history of Rolls-Royce. The 14 Rolls-Royce Phantom cars currently in use are the largest Rolls-Royce fleet in the world. Since the 1950s, The Peninsula Hotel has also been known as the "Movie Stars' Tea House". Many movie stars love to have afternoon tea at the Peninsula Hotel. In the 1980s, artists such as Leslie Cheung, Cherie Chung, and Maggie Cheung were also frequent guests of the Peninsula Hotel. I wonder if people back then ever thought, "One must stay at the Peninsula Hotel at least once in one's life"? Today, The Peninsula Hotel has become much more accessible to the general public. You don’t have to be rich, powerful or have status to go there. Anyone who is willing to spend money can go there! The following is our first experience staying at the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong: I am excited to stay at the Peninsula Hotel~The purpose of this stay is to celebrate my birthday! We arrived at the hotel lobby to check in at around 16:30. There was no one checking in so there was no need to queue! Although the architectural design of the Peninsula Hotel is more Westernized, there are also some decorations with ancient Chinese characteristics, such as a pair of stone lions outside the door and a Qilin in the lobby. I believe these are all Feng Shui formations! Maybe because we were celebrating our birthday, the staff upgraded us to a room on the 6th floor with a view of the Space Museum, Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront and Victoria Harbour! The rooms on the 6th floor are located in the most original building. Although the floor is not high and the view may not be open enough to see the entire Victoria Harbour, I personally feel that this better reflects the accommodation feeling when there was no new wing! There are some artistic photos of Hong Kong attractions hung in the corridor, as if telling us that the hotel is witnessing the changes in Hong Kong! When you enter the room, there is a luggage storage in front, and below is a row of cabinets with hair dryers, nail dryers, mask covers, and disinfectant wipes; next to it is a row of vertical cabinets which are wardrobes, with two sets of pajamas, slippers, umbrellas, flashlights, and more! Most of the electrical appliances in the room are controlled through electronic screens, which is very modern. It is hard to imagine that this place has a history of nearly a hundred years. It really keeps up with the times! Before entering the room, the toilet and bathroom are on the side opposite the straight cabinet! The washroom is independent and separate from the bathroom, and simply has only a wash basin and toilet! The bathroom has a washbasin, bathtub and shower, and toiletries are mainly placed here. Two bathrobes are also provided! Entering the interior of the room, there is a room within a room separated by a small door. There is a large bed, dressing table, workbench, sofa, coffee table, TV, etc. The room design is classical and elegant, with a touch of Chinese style! The sofa, coffee table and TV create a space for entertainment and chilling. The audio-visual system is quite good, and you can watch movies/Netflix/YouTube here for half a day! The workbench is not just a desk. You will find all kinds of stationery when you open the cabinet, and there is also a 4-in-1 printer (Print/Fax/Scan/Copy)! People who travel will definitely find it very convenient! The mirror on the dressing table has a light and can be raised and lowered! There is a dining space between the workbench and the dressing table. When you open the cabinet, you will find a coffee machine, tea bags, and tea sets on one side, and a refrigerator, drinks, and tableware and cups on the other side! There is a bench behind the bed, and there are electronic screens, phones and charging stations on both sides of the bed. When you open the cabinet, there are wireless charging, plugs and USB heads. It is super convenient! The small suite is very comfortable and has everything you need for work, entertainment and rest. It not only retains the traditional atmosphere, but also has modern facilities! Warm reminder: There is no water heater in the room. If you need one, you can call the front desk to request it! The room on the 6th floor we stayed in had 3 windows, and the views from all of them were similar, facing the Space Museum, Cultural Center and Victoria Harbour. However, to enjoy the night view of Victoria Harbour, it is best to walk out to the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront and enjoy it slowly, which is about a 5-minute walk away! The night view of the Peninsula Hotel is so magnificent, and with the decorations during Christmas, it will become a must-see spot! Breakfast is served at the lobby cafe from 7:00am to 11:00am. Reservations must be made online in advance, and 10:30am is the last reservation time. We made a reservation for 9:15am. There are Chinese and Western breakfast options. I wanted to try both, but I prefer Western breakfast. Plus, it said "Classic Peninsula Breakfast", so I chose Western in the end! The classic Peninsula breakfast includes: -Juice or fresh seasonal fruit -Breakfast cereal -Fried or scrambled eggs with bacon, chicken and beef sausage or French toast with apples, mixed berries and maple syrup -Croissants, chocolate Danish, muffins, apple Danish, raisin soft buns -Coffee, fresh milk coffee, Italian cappuccino or Peninsula selected tea We chose grapefruit juice, Italian cappuccino, scrambled eggs with bacon, chicken and beef sausage and French toast with apples, mixed berries and maple syrup, 1 serving each. Bread and cereal will be served first. Remember, remember, remember, don't eat the bread in one go, because when we finish eating bread and cereal, we are already 80% full. When the scrambled eggs with bacon, chicken and beef sausage and French toast with apples, mixed berries and maple syrup are served, we have no appetite. Fortunately, the scrambled eggs with bacon, chicken and beef sausage I ordered are not too much, and I can eat them. If you order French toast, remember to save some space! The overall taste of the classic Peninsula breakfast is good and very exquisite, of course, the main thing is the "eating environment"! After breakfast and taking a break, we will take the time to enjoy the Peninsula Hotel's Roman palace-style swimming pool! Here you can enjoy the beautiful view of Victoria Harbour, and there are two massage pools. The water in the pool is 150 meters deep. As I am short and can't swim, I spend most of my time relaxing in the massage pool! Staying for one night was really too rushed, but I was very satisfied. I hope I will have the opportunity to experience the Rolls-Royce car service and take a helicopter tour over Hong Kong next time! 📍The Peninsula Hong Kong Address: 22 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon Transportation: MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit L3/L6 or Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit E Check in: 15:00 Check out: 12:00pm #localtour #staycation #HongKongGoodPlaces #HongKongPeninsulaHotel #PeninsulaHotel
