Explore the Jao Tsung-I Academy

The Cultural Centre is located at 800 Castle Peak Road, Lai Chi Kok. There are road signs at Exit B of Mei Foo MTR Station, and there is also a pedestrian bridge to the Mei Foo Bus Terminal, so it is not difficult to find. The cultural center complex is located on a hill surrounded by trees and forests. The old-style red brick buildings with golden-tiled roofs add to the quaint atmosphere of this place, and people can feel the fusion of nature and art! Since the end of the 19th century, the current site of the Jao Tsung-I Academy has successively become a customs branch, a Chinese labor settlement, a quarantine station, a prison, an infectious disease hospital, and a mental sanatorium. Although their roles and uses are different, they all respond to the needs of society at that time. The cultural center strikes a balance between conservation, revitalization and technology, breathing new life into a century-old large-scale building complex. The entire building complex is a Grade 3 historic building in Hong Kong. Each building has been renovated and consolidated, preserving its original structure and appearance as much as possible while being redesigned and planned to suit its new purpose. More than a dozen buildings located in the upper, middle and lower districts have been opened for use since 2012. The hostel was officially put into service in early 2014, and the cultural center was officially opened in June 2014. The Art Gallery and Conservation Centre are located in the Lower District, and the reception is also located in the Lower District. You can reach the central area by walking along the stone steps or taking the elevator. The central area consists of six main buildings, including the exhibition hall, Boya Hall, restaurant, performance hall, Xiuxue Jingshe and the office building of the cultural center. The building provides various facilities inside and outside, including exhibition halls, activity rooms, performance halls, cultural lecture halls, art workshops and conference rooms, etc. A glass ceiling is built in the atrium between the restaurant and the performance hall, making it an all-weather outdoor activity venue. In the Upper District, five two-storey century-old buildings have been revitalised into a unique heritage hotel, Cui Ya Shan Fang. Surrounded by green trees, chirping birds and fragrant flowers, guests feel as if they are in an oasis in the city, enjoying a unique accommodation experience. #localtourism #staycation #goodplacesinhongkong #residentwriter #goodplaceforparents #cultureandarts #jaozongyiculturalcenter
